Rajasthan Royals (RR) delivered a commanding all-round performance to outclass Chennai Super Kings (CSK), winning by eight wickets to win their TATA IPL 2026 season opener in Guwahati.Winning the toss and opting to bowl first, RR’s overseas pace duo — Jofra Archer and Nandre Burger — made an immediate impact. The pair set the tone early, dismantling CSK’s top order with precision and pace. Burger struck in his very first over, beating Sanju Samson’s bat swing to crash into the off stump, sending him back for 6 off seven deliveries. In the following over, Archer compounded CSK’s troubles by removing Ruturaj Gaikwad. Attempting to break free, Gaikwad charged down the track but missed the ball entirely, only to see his stumps shattered. At 19/2 in three overs, CSK were already on the back foot.

Burger returned to inflict further damage, striking on the very next ball of his second over as Ayush Mhatre gloved a sharp bouncer behind. Reduced to 19/3 in 3.1 overs, CSK were forced into an early tactical move, bringing in the Impact Player, Sarfaraz Khan. However, the slide continued. Matt Short’s dismissal meant CSK crawled to 41/4 at the end of the powerplay. With Sarfaraz also departing in the eighth over, CSK found themselves reeling at 51/5.Shivam Dube briefly threatened a counterattack with a towering six but was dismissed soon after, as Ravindra Jadeja — turning out for RR after 17 seasons — made an immediate impact. Jadeja struck twice in his opening over, removing both Sarfaraz and Dube to further dent CSK’s hopes.

From there on, it was a lone battle from Jamie Overton. Walking in at number eight, Overton showed resilience and composure, top-scoring with 43 off 36 balls. His innings helped CSK limp to 127, before he was run out in the final over.RR’s bowling effort was a collective showcase, with all six bowlers chipping in with wickets. Burger (2/26), Archer (2/19) and Jadeja (2/18) led the charge, while debutant Brijesh Sharma impressed with figures of 1/17.In response, RR made light work of the chase with a breathtaking start. The opening pair came out firing, racing to 74/0 in the powerplay and effectively sealing the contest inside the first six overs. The highlight of the innings was a sensational knock from 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who produced a stunning display of fearless hitting. He smashed 52 off just 17 balls, with four boundaries and five sixes, bringing up his half-century in just 15 deliveries. His milestone came in style, with back-to-back sixes off Noor Ahmad in the sixth over.

Sooryavanshi’s remarkable innings ended immediately after the powerplay, as he was dismissed off the first ball of the seventh over, finding extra cover where Sarfaraz Khan held onto a sharp catch. With the game already in control, Yashasvi Jaiswal anchored the chase with an unbeaten 38 off 36 balls. He found support from Dhruv Jurel (18 off 9) and Riyan Parag (14* off 11) as RR cruised to victory without any further hiccups.Anshul Kamboj was the lone bright spot for CSK with the ball, picking up 2/27 in his three overs.Nandre Burger was named Player of the Match for his incisive spell upfront, setting up a dominant win for Rajasthan Royals. The full scorecard and match details can be found here.

In a spectacular display of power-hitting, the Mumbai Indians successfully chased down a daunting 221-run target to defeat the Kolkata Knight Riders by six wickets in Match 2 of the TATA IPL 2026 at the Wankhede Stadium. By securing the win with five balls to spare, the Mumbai franchise famously snapped a 14-year streak of losing their season-opening fixture, a jinx that stretched back to 2012.Earlier in the evening, Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya won the toss and elected to field first on a green-tinged Wankhede surface. However, the Kolkata Knight Riders batters quickly neutralised the early conditions with ruthless intent. Openers Finn Allen and captain Ajinkya Rahane set a blistering tempo, constructing a rapid 69-run opening stand inside the Powerplay.

Allen, bringing his destructive form into the IPL, smashed 37 off just 17 deliveries, launching six boundaries and two maximums. Shardul Thakur, making a memorable debut for the Mumbai franchise, provided the vital initial breakthrough by dismissing the dangerous New Zealander.Despite losing partners at regular intervals, Rahane anchored the innings brilliantly. The KKR skipper raced to his 34th IPL half-century, ultimately falling for a classy 67 off 40 deliveries (3 fours, 5 sixes). Young Angkrish Raghuvanshi sustained the momentum, punishing the Mumbai bowlers to score a rapid 51 off just 29 balls (6 fours, 2 sixes). Rinku Singh provided the trademark finishing touches with an unbeaten 33 off 21 balls, propelling KKR to a massive 220 for 4.

Amidst the carnage, Shardul Thakur stood out as the pick of the bowlers. He claimed the crucial wickets of Allen, Cameron Green (18 off 10), and Rahane, finishing with highly impactful figures of 3 for 39 from his four overs. Jasprit Bumrah also displayed remarkable control, conceding just 35 runs in his wicketless four-over spell.Faced with a mountainous 221, Mumbai Indians required a flawless start. Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton delivered exactly that, dismantling the KKR bowling attack to forge a massive 148-run partnership in merely 11.5 overs. This opening stand seized complete control of the contest and laid the definitive foundation for the chase.

Rohit rolled back the years with an authoritative 78 off 38 deliveries. His spectacular knock, studded with six boundaries and six towering maximums, brought up his 50th fifty-plus score in IPL history. At the other end, Rickelton validated his selection with a match-winning 81 off 43 balls. He demonstrated the immense ball-striking credentials, dispatching the KKR bowlers for four boundaries and eight massive sixes.

Vaibhav Arora finally provided KKR a breakthrough by dismissing Rohit, and a brilliant piece of fielding from Anukul Roy resulted in Rickelton’s run-out. Impact Player Suryakumar Yadav (16 off 8) and Tilak Varma (20 off 14) contributed valuable quick runs to keep the required rate in check. As the game tightened slightly in the dying moments, Hardik Pandya and Naman Dhir held their nerves to seal the deal with five balls to spare.

Mumbai Indians start their TATA IPL 2026 campaign in the best possible manner, getting early points on the board and securing a massive confidence boost by conquering a total in excess of 220. Shardul Thakur rightfully claimed the Player of the Match award for his decisive 3-wicket haul on his debut for the franchise, proving to be the difference-maker on a pitch heavily stacked in favour of the batters. Meanwhile, the Kolkata Knight Riders will take plenty of positives from their exceptional batting display as they look to bounce back in their next fixture.

However, captain Ishan Kishan led the batting from the front, smacking quickfire 80 runs off 38 deliveries. A strong finish by Aniket Verma (43) in the end took the scoreboard to 201/9 in the first innings.

However, it was not enough for victory as RCB chased down the target like a walk in the park. After they lost opener Phil Salt cheaply, Devdutt Padikkal scored a 26-ball 61 to take the game away from SRH.
